Swimming pool liners
Pool liners are vital components of in-ground and above-ground swimming pools that add to the appearance, comfort and durability of the swimming pool. They can be used on most above or below ground pools and come in a wide range of price and color options.
Modern flexible swimming pool liners are made from a tough but tactile vinyl that can last for many years and that out-performs the old fashioned method of lining the internal walls and floor of a swimming pool with small tiles.
Types of swimming pool liner
There are two types of swimming pool liner, the overlap liner and the beaded liner and both have different characteristics, prices and applications.
Overlap liners
- An overlap pool liner will only work with an above-ground swimming pool. The vinyl liner extends beyond the top edge of the pool's side walls and "overlaps" them. It is then fixed in place by means of clips that are covered by a cosmetic top rail.
Overlap liners are comparatively cheap and comparatively easy to fit, but they lack a professional finish. They will not work with a below-ground swimming pool.
Beaded liners
- A beaded swimming pool liner is the only liner that will work in conjunction with an in-ground swimming pool, but it will also work with the cheaper above-ground pools and it can give them a more expensive appearance.
Beaded liners have a neat professional look, even though they terminate before the top of the swimming pool's side walls. At this "pool top" point, the small beads at the head of the liner clip into a special track that runs around the internal face of the swimming pool's perimeter. This track is situated just below the top of the pool's walls and it makes a smart feature and termination point.
Why buy a vinyl liner
These days vinyl liners not only save money on tiling a pool's walls and base, they also offer a massive range of colors and border patterns that allow extensive color coding and customizing of a swimming pool.
- Vinyl liners have a nice tactile feel and they can be padded with additional coving and side wall bats. This can enhance the soft feel of the pool.
- Good quality pool liners will enhance not just the appearance of a swimming pool, but also it life expectancy. They offer protection to the pools walls and base (above-ground pools) and can be changed or replaced at a fraction of the cost of a tiled pool. They are ideal if you want to give your pool area a fresh new look.
- Cheap overlap liners allow above-ground swimming pools to be given a decorative and life-span enhancing make-over at a small cost. Overlap liners are comparatively cheap, but they can improve an above-ground pool's look and give it a more permanent appearance. They are a good way of adding visual value to an economy priced pool.
- Beaded liners are always more expensive than overlap liners, but they are more durable, they come in a greater range of colours and patterns, and they have a higher gauge (thickness).
